Standard Ten Artifact Reflection
Title: Math Lesson Plan
Date: October 25th, 2012
Description:
My artifact for this experience is a lesson plan that I wrote with a fellow peer to teach to a small group of fifth graders at the local middle school. We worked with the teachers at this school to build a lesson that would benefit their students. After writing the lesson plan, we were able to teach the lesson to some of their students.
Alignment Reflection:
Wisconsin Teacher Standard
I think this experience best aligns with standard ten: teachers are connected with other teachers adn the community. This artifact shows that I am able to connect with other teachers and the community. In order to properly plan this lesson I worked with a fellow classmate. We had to come together with our ideas to plan an effective lesson. I was also able to work with the larger community of the Platteville schools. I was given the opportunity to see how they work with their students and was able to bring new ideas to their classroom.
UW-Platteville KSD Alignment:
This experience aligns best with SD4.d contributes to school and district. When working with one of my peers I had to be supportive and cooperative. We had to
work together and come up with one solid plan for the better of the students. In this activity my fellow peer and I served as leaders to the students we were teaching. All of this was done as a class project in partnership with the local school.
Secondary Alignments:
KSD3.e Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness
KS3.c Engages students in learning
KS3.b Uses questioning and discussion techniques
KS1.e Designs coherent instruction
Reflections:
What I learned about teaching/learning?
Through teaching this lesson I learned that I need to work with my colleagues. Having someone else to get ideas from and bounce my ideas off of is helpful when preparing lessons. Fellow teachers can provide new information that I may never have learned if I didn't work as a team member. Also working with people in the community allows community members to see what I am doing with my students in the classroom.
What I learned about myself as a prospective teacher?
As a prospective teacher I learned that I am able to work with other people in my school and the community. I may have my own classroom, but working with others can make me be a better teacher, and may help provide better curriculum for my students. I also learned that I am able to work with others in the community and provide opportunities for my students. Seeing these students that I worked with get so excited about working with older students made me want to do something like this in my future classroom.
