Standard Nine Artifact Reflection
Title: Lesson Reflections
Date: September 2012-December 2012
Description:
As an artifact for standard nine, I chose my lesson reflections. I have included a variety of reflections from my pre-student teaching practicum. These reflections include what was and what was not working, how the students felt about my lesson, and what could be changed in future teachings of this lesson. I have also included the lessons for which I wrote these reflections.
Alignment:
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment:
I chose to align this artifact with standard nine: teachers are able to evaluate themselves. I believe this artifact aligns best with standard nine because it shows that I am able to continually evaluate myself as a teacher. In my reflections I was able to discuss how my lessons and actions affected the students that I was teaching. These reflections are a way to show that I am able to think about what is best for my students and what I can do to get to that point.
UW-Platteville Knowledge, Skill and Disposition Statement Alignments:
I aligned this artifact with KS4. a: reflects on teaching. In my reflections I was able to name specific elements in which my teaching contributed to successful instruction and other parts that need to be fixed in order to make them successful. I was also able to predict what would happen if I did change those parts that needed to be fixed in my lessons. Overall, I was able to thoughtfully reflect on the effectiveness of my teaching on my students.
Secondary Alignments:
KSD4.e Grows and develops professionally
KSD4.f Show professionalism
KSD4.b Maintains accurate records
Reflections:
What I learned about teaching/learning?
Through these reflections I learned that teaching is never perfect. Teachers should always be reflecting on what they taught in order to make their teaching better. The goal of teaching is to provide successful instruction for students. Instruction can always be improved, but only if teachers are willing to admit that they need to improve it. Reflections help teachers figure out what they should do next and what needs to be changed. They help teachers recall what they did correctly and what maybe needs a little help. In the end teacher reflections not only benefit themselves, but the students as well.
What I learned about myself as a prospective teacher?
Through these reflections I learned that I am able to see what worked and what didn’t work in my lessons. I am able to see what my students enjoyed and what knowledge they gained from my teaching. With these reflections I was able to change what didn’t work and improve on my lessons. Knowing how to accurately and thoughtfully reflect on my teaching is something that I will use throughout the rest of my college career as well as my future teaching career.
